Merci

Merci is a 2 year old filly, who on December 27 put her leg through a 3/4" plywood stall wall at a thoroughbred breeding facility and ripped her left leg from the hock down.  A family rescued the filly and appropriately named her Merci.  Merci continues to recover and her pictures and story are below.  Thanks for these initial photos.  The owner says Merci is doing great and promises us more pictures.  We are hoping soon.

December 27, Merci rips leg from the hock down.  The breeding facility treated the wound with an ointment, wonder dust and injections of penicillin.

January 2, Merci was rescued from the facility.  The veterinarian began daily treatment of furazone on the bone, wonder dust on the flesh after a wash with benadine scrub and oral antibiotics.  Proud flesh was a major concern and the vet believed that surgical removal would be required, possibly more than once.  Equaide was ordered to prevent any proud flesh and aid in the healing process.

January 7 All the pictures provided so far are as of January 7th.  As you can see, this is a very nasty wound, but the ligaments and bone are in good shape.  Equaide was first applied.

The owner says that Merci is doing great and the skin is filling in nicely; she also promises us some more pictures once they are developed.  We can't wait to share them with you.
